The defendant confessed to 17 charges at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week

An individual who spiked sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to children at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two children who were nine and 10.

The defendant was detained after eight children and a grown-up experienced illness at the facility in mid-summer.

The elderly man, from that region, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Nevertheless, he refused to admit one particular crime he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

The defendant was kept in jail before a subsequent court date on late November.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She said his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer program which he operated.

Ruben engaged in a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "for many years", and children had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had concerns in recently.

The legal representative added: "This year his family member had concerns about what was going on, for good reason.

"They decided to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor stated materials including lubricant, petroleum jelly and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his concerns.

She said the defendant proceeded to play the "candy game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that time," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.

The legal representative said the minors were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member contacted the authorities once more.

She said the man then conducted the "candy game" in a space of five minors.
